Why it matters
- Badaga is the language of the Badaga community of the Nilgiris hill tribal pocket; Marwari is spoken across India, including by Marwari families in Tamil Nadu. Their children start school in Tamil or English, not the language they speak at home.
- NEP 2020 and NIPUN Bharat ask foundational learning (FLN) to start from the home language, the bridge to the classroom. Badaga and Marwari have no books, apps or speech tools.
- KURINJI turns the child's own spoken words, recorded and owned by the community, into classroom vocabulary: oral language development for the Foundational Stage.
